Rollover

Lucy is trying hard (well, sometimes) to roll over from her back to her belly. The major problem I see with this is once she can accomplish the act she'll actually BE on her belly and that does not make her happy. I have visions of having to roll her back over in her crib several times a night, but we'll see. This is Grandma and me trying to get Lucy to roll with limited success.

While You Were Napping

Who is more pathetic?

Yesterday afternoon I strapped on my snowshoes and tramped around in the yard for a half hour to beat down some pathways for Shorty because the snow is so high. Now instead of the one path she had to her favorite tree, she has a whole maze of choices to all desirable doggie spots in the yard. This is her first year without Eowyn, who used to break all snow paths happily for both dogs. I'm not sure if I should be more embarrassed that I spent my time doing this for the dog, or that my dog won't do it for herself.

Something New

What an exciting time in the life of a baby! It seems as though almost every day Lucy learns something new. Last week when I picked her up at her babysitter's she was sucking her upper lip. Then a couple of days later she found her feet ... well ... foot, really, as though it took her another four or five days to discover that she has two. Now it's hard to get her to let go of them when we're changing, dressing, bathing, etc. Super to discover that the toys are right at hand, so to speak!

And the toy goes ...

..... into her mouth! Lucy is full-on oral exploration recently. Everything, from her hands to her toys, from my hair to strangers fingers to Daddy's chin, goes straight into her mouth. I know that this is a stage that all babies go through and that she's exploring her world with all her senses, but it just seems so gross. It kind of reminds me of when dogs sniff each other - isn't there a better way to learn about everything?

Jump

Although our pediatrician recommended Lucy NOT go in the johnny jump-up until she was at least six months old, we threw caution to the wind yesterday for some bouncing good fun. Eric was amazed at how quickly Lucy got her feet underneath her to do the jumping herself, even though her feet are super small as compared to the rest of her body. And much thanks to Meredith and Emilie for that great yard sale!
